1989 250 MX

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

This is my first post and in fact my first dirt bike.

I bought a complete and very clean 1989 KTM 250 MX off a coworker. He has had it sitting in his garage for years.

Apparently it received a complete engine and gearbox overhaul before it was stored but never ran because there was an issue with ignition. There simply wasn't any.

It looks as if everything has been rebuilt as claimed.

I'm not sure how the digital controller and coil are supposed to be hooked up and can't find a diagram online for reference. Is there a way to test the controller/coil to ensure they're good?

The radiators and coolant passages are nice and clean, from what I can tell.

Anything else to look at?

I don't know much a ktm ignitions or any ignitions for that matter, but it was rebuilt and then stored. It might just be a simple ground problem due to the rebuild. Maybe a unhooked connection or loose wire. Possibily corrosion could have set in.

Anyways, what I really wanted to say was: She is beauty! Don't give up on it, She needs to be brought back to life!

Nice bike!

Thanks!!

I have a makeshift wiring layout for the ignition system that was given to me by the previous owner. I'll trace and track down any issues there.

The upside down forks were stock on this model. Pretty cool feature, I think.
