crf 230 piston

Recommended Posts

So, the other day, my crf230 shut off violently. when i hit the starter, it clicked like you could hear the piston moving... my dad and i took the motor out and looked at the piston. it looks like the piston skirt was broken and the rings were absoluteley destroyed, i know im going to have to order a new piston, but i am going to have to get the big chunks out of the bottom end, any suggestions?

Complete disassemble and throughly CLEAN IT ALL

Clean the centrifugal oil filter

That grit gets in all the bearings and is pretty impossible to completely remove.

Transmission, camshaft, rod bearings, crank bearings should be replaced..,,

I'm just saying but of course, your call....

I purchased a 150f that had a "busted" piston. (The price was right and it was a 2014 model.) Split the cases and separate everything. Clean the parts well. Its amazing all the crap you will find. A shop manual will be your best friend if you don't already have one.
