honda crf 450 2011 wont idle

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Did skegness beach race last weekend (very fine sand) and since then the bike wont idle. It starts and runs perfectly well with the idle knob pulled out but when I push it back in it runs for a few seconds then dies.

I've checked the fuel pump and its still running fine.

The fuel pump filter is black.

The air filter is clean.

The coolant level is fine

I forgot to check the Morse code on the kill switch but I don't remember seeing any noticeable flashing.

The bike doesn't bog at all when snapping the throttle.

When the idle knob is pulled out does fuel bypass the filter? I'm inclined to think that the fuel filter is clogged .

Any help would be hugely appreciated

Thanks olly

Fuel pump filter is black ?

You know that you need to service that filter about every third oil change.....and you should filter your gas before it goes in the tank or use a tank sock filter.

You might have sand stuck in one of the injector orifice holes....

...but have you tried turning up the idle?  Counter clockwise clicks ?

You're meant to do that filter every 30 hours and I service the bike every 3 hours. Admittedly I don't filter the fuel however I'm always careful when refuelling.

I did turn the idle up and it idled fine. But as these bikes are notorious for boiling over won't turning up the idle have any negative effects when there is no air going over the radiators? I don't like the sound of it revving high
