What is flat track?

Recommended Posts

Picture bikes drifting sideways on an oval shaped dirt track. (like a horse racing track)

Popular in some regions of the USA, not so much in Canada.

And bikes with NO brakes.

Up until circa 1970, but since then they have brakes. Still a few vintage classes that run brakeless, such as the Classic 250 and Classic 750. boardtrackers, etc.

To the OP, search You Tube for flattrack, you'll find tons of videos. Might even find me in a few.

Go look up "The thril is on", its the movie made after, "on any Sunday"

Never released until Dave Despain dug it up and released it.

I race flat track more fun but the cost of setting up bike just for it can get expensive. I did see a add that TM has a DTX bike right our of the box, just the cost savings alone could be worth a look.

Think of dirt track stock car racing for motorcycles. Nearly, but not all, tracks are oval. TT tracks will have right and left turns (usually a kidneybean shape)and a jump.

Search Peoria TT on YouTube.

Speedway bikes don't run brakes, flat track usually runs a rear brake only.

Yes, Speedway is what I was thinking. We have those races local all summer and I was just introduced to it this year. Thanks for the clarification.
