Body Armor Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Shopping around for some new body armor and need some suggestions.  Im running the fox airframe and some cheap elbow pads right now but want something better.  I also run a leatt neck brace.

I race, trail ride, desert ride, track practice... so something light but protective would be awesome.

I kind of like the leatt 3df airfit, but dont like how it has no rib pads at all.

So i looked at the troy lee 7855, and it seems nice

but i have always liked the thor sentinel; just dont like how it has 0 shoulder padding, obviously id run separate elbow pads

and then i saw the new fox raptor, which seems like the best option if i wanted to go for the hard outer shell, and id run separate elbow pads as well

any thoughts? recommendations?  reviews?

reason i want something new is that i dislocated my shoulder a year ago and i think its because of how the leatt and airframe lock into eachother, it created a lever point right at my shoulder where it came out.  oh well live and learn.

Thanks!

Leatt 5.5, 4.5 or Adventure Roost

Atlas Defender

TLD 5955.

I have the 5955 and LOVE IT. I used to wear the old style EVS Revo 5 (old style with only spine protection on the back) and the TLD is actually more comfortable. Both have the same heat retention (depends how you wear them).

My son wears the Leatt Adventure Roost and besides some of the nuts/bolts (RivNuts) coming loose and panels falling off, he has no complaints. I do suggest, if you buy a Leatt, make sure the RivNuts have loctite on them.

I've never met anyone that actually keeps wearing the "pressure suit" type of protector. Everyone that I know, that has one, has eventually gave up on them.

This may be a stupid question but do all of these go under your jersey

The leatt and troy lee do, the sentinel and raptor dont.

I run mine over my jersey. I don't want a 60$ shirt ripping because my chest protector was under my Shirt haha

yea but hey wearing your jersey on the outside makes you look cool right?

I have the Leatt 3df airfit. I love the thing. It is really cool, fits extremely well, and has offered great protection. Since you already run a Leatt neck brace this would be a perfect pressure suit because it has built in attachments to run a neck brace.

i have read nothing but good reviews on the leatt.  i guess i dont have rib protection now so i wouldnt be giving anything up

the leatt chest protectors are nice, but the 5.5 is too tanky.  and the 4.5 is alright but then its like the sentinel without the shoulder pads.  atlas defender is cool, but i think the sentinel would work better with a leatt neck brace.

my buddy has a 5955 and it looks nice.  he wears it under his jersey and his dad wears it outside.  both have leatt braces.  maybe ill throw his on and see how it feels.

in regards to the pressure suit, yea it does seem hot and uncomfortable.  Thats why i like the sound of these soft ones.  Ill have to go try a couple different options on.

I'm waiting on the Atlas Guardian due out this spring.  It will work seamlessly with the Atlas neck brace I have.

Fly Racing Barricade

No quality issue. Comfortable. The only thing you won't survive in this is a punch from Weston Peick. I had to go a jersey size up and look like a football player but my bones and internals are worth more than my pride. Breathes well and move very easily in it

I'm hoping on them being cheaper retail But, without the shoulder and elbow parts it is much more affordable, especially since I already have elbow protection.

Atlas is on Hookit. They are excepting applications now. They are one of the few offers I got that actually save you money. They gave me 30%, but are offering 50% off this weekend. I have a brace and the Guardian in the cart now, just need to convince myself to pull the trigger.

I use the EVS ballistic G6. I wear it under just to keep it looking nicer. But all that to say i love the elbow pads and shoulder pads integral. I use my elbow and shoulder pads more than anything.
