What year engines fit into 2015 frame?

Recommended Posts

Hi
I'm looking for RM-Z 450 engine, electrics and throttle body to fit into my 2015 RM-Z 450 rolling chassis.

What other years will fit straight in with no modification?

And can I mix and match engine, electrics and throttle from various years to make a working set?
Cheers!

08 to current, you may need to have same year for year engine and electronics for proper fitment

Thanks racertodd. So an '08 would fit straight in with zero mods?
Do you know what was the first year the RMZ450 had EFI?
Reason I ask is, I rang the local Suzuki specialist today and they told me only the '13 onwards will fit.

Stator out put is the only thing you might have to change. Other then the stator the bike has no idea what year it is and what Ecu is running it. Just make sure you keep the throttle body and Ecu together as in same year

Yes they are incorrect. As Adam said... keep the ECU and throttle body together. Best bet would be to run the same electronics from whatever year motor you pick up.

I concur.....since when do specialists know shit? The engine cases fit and then it's a counters haft sprocket. ....like stated above just worry about the brains of the operation.

If that "specialist" works for a dealership, then I don't think he is special in the way you may think. 90% of those guys only know as much as is printed in the brochure.

Thanks guys for your help. Much appreciated.

I'm looking at a 2012 this weekend, although it's done approx 70 hours so not sure how good it is yet.

70hrs is nothing. Throw a new piston in it and replace the cam chain and you should be good to go assuming the top end was kept clean. If not, new valves and seats will be in order.

You probably know this but worth mentioning... I would not recommend shimming a used motor!

The suzuki guy is correct if you don't want to do any modifications. Motors from 08-16 fit in frames 08-16, however the ignition wire is different (as mentioned before) from 12 to 13. So, if you ran a 08-12 motor in a 13 or newer frame you'd have to use the same wire harness from 08-12. Second problem is suzuki changed the bolt placement for the Ecu. Easy fix is just zip tie the Ecu behind the shroud or I have layed it on top of the engine. The throttle bodies work for all years, you just need a different fuel line for 13+. (Easy fix)
