01 WR250F Can't get a steady idle

Recommended Posts

I must have messed up the settings.  Now the idle is way too fast and all over the place.  Turning the idle screw lowers it but it dies out every time.  When I blip the throttle it the idle doesn't fall back down.  So I tried starting over, backing out the fuel screw 1.75 turns, but it still isn't behaving right.  I shouldn't have changed anything but I was just trying to lower the idle and make sure the mixture was right.   Oh boy.

Solved!  Lesson to self and anyone else.  Adjustments have to be made a fraction of a turn at a time.  Let it burn through the gas of the previous setting, allowing the carb to settle and recover after each change in settings.  Too many screw or knob turns without giving it a bit of running time will just foul everything further excuse the pun.  I think I got it back within normal behavior now.  Motors just want to run, if given some simple conditions.
