Need help with 97 yz 125 rebuild

Recommended Posts

I just bought a complete rebuild kit for my yz 125 and I'm doing my first rebuild. Just wondering if anyone one can give me any tips on easier ways to do it. I have the manual but that doesn't always help.

Pull the engine. Everything is easier on a workbench. Go slowly make sure everything is 100% the first time. Good luck.

Cleanliness... of parts, tools, hands and work area.

Make sure the outside of the engine is clean of dirt and grime build-up before tearing it apart.

Less chance of debris falling into it and that the overseen grit ruins a new piston, ring or cylinder.

Take plenty of pictures during the disassembly process so if ever in doubt during re-assembly you

can verify previous cable routing, different bolt length locations etc.

Make sure you have the right tools for the job, trying to install/remove things with the wrong tools often leads to damaged parts.

This should be helpful,

a 32 video YouTube playlist on how to dis-assemble / service / re-assemble a similar 1998 YZ125 engine

by the way that is the clutch cover, here's an aftermarket one for sale on EBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Boyesen-Factory-Racing-Black-Silver-Clutch-Cover-CC-31-/171867971331?fits=Model%3AYZ125

You might be able to find a used original one for much cheaper.
