Goonyz400f Posted November 22, 2015 Is this the right oil for my 04 450,will it be safe for the engine and trans sides
mlatour Posted November 22, 2015 (edited) I see no problem for the engine, as for the gearbox side that oil doesn't seem to have any JASO rating indicated (wet clutch) so it may or may not be ok, if your clutch was previously in good mechanical condition and suddenly starts slipping you'll know why. Goonyz400f Posted November 22, 2015 I have some 80-90 gear oil, would that work for the trans
mlatour Posted November 22, 2015 (edited) If you meant 80W-90 hypoid gear oil (for rear axles / differentials) Nope, that's even worse! Use either : -a 10W-30 or 10W-40 JASO rated motorcylcle engine oil -some 5W-40 or 15W-40 heavy-duty diesel engine oils like Shell Rotella-T or T-6 (again must be JASO rated) -a 80W or 85W motorcycle specific gearbox lubricant - ATF (automatic transmission fluid) like Dexron / Mercon or Type-F, -probably your most economical option- (ATF is thinner than the above mentioned oils, you'll notice better shifting when cold. Also consider replacing it at shorter intervals) Edited November 22, 2015 by mlatour

Goonyz400f Posted November 22, 2015 Oh cool I've got some 10w 30 for my Yamaha still so I can use that
ramjetV8 Posted November 23, 2015 Zinc is fine for trans, that's whats in the Rotella t. Moly bad for trans wet clutch. I don't see anything saying Moly I bet it is just fine in both sides.
Goonyz400f Posted November 23, 2015 Yeah I looked for that but couldnt see anything on it cheers
ramjetV8 Posted November 23, 2015 Zinc is good for the valve train, better than Moly as far as I can see. The oil I am using has antimony not sure how it compares to Zinc or Moly, time will tell I guess.
