1998 yz250 project

Recommended Posts

I just picked this 1998 yz250 in pieces up for $750, came with everything in the picture and a title (Not in his name but still nice to have). The piston and crank look like they have had some good use but looks run-able (No play in any direction in the crank). I am going to put it all together and see how it runs before I do anything motor wise. I noticed it had a Noleen header pipe on it and I had never seen one before so I did some research. Hard to find i'm guessing they don't make them anymore, it would be great if anyone new any info on that. It needs a few gaskets and a new air filter before I can start it but I am excited. The shift shaft seal is leaking also, and the shock needs a stopper. It has Boyesen rad valve and a pro circuit silencer. I will post some pictures of the bike and all the parts I have plans of turning this into a woods bike and possibly doing the 2002+ gas tank, sub frame, and air box swap to fit the Ufo restyle kit in the future. I found a guy on Youtube that did this swap and it looks great.

Video of the swap

I decided to rebuild the whole motor and I am glad I did! One of the crank bearings is about to go out. I can't find a complete crankshaft assembly besides a oem one that would cost me about $360 and for that price I'd rather get it rebuilt by a machine shop. I put new bearings in it, have a new clutch, top end, seals and gaskets. Hope to be getting the crank rebuilt soon. Here are some pics

Quick update

I got my crank back from Andrew Cooksey and I have to say he did a great job! He put in a new connecting rod, bearings, and cleaned it up a bit. I slapped a new piston in, and a new clutch.
