Is a late build 2002 Honda cr 125 actually the 2003 model

I heard the 2002 CR 125 that looks identical to the 2003, was said to come  out late in production. I also noticed in the "CR model changes" that is pinned here shows NO image/Info of the 2002 build model that looks the same as the 2003 ??

My "2002" build model looks just like the 2003 in the "CR model Changes" pinned here.......

 

My bike states it is a 2002 on the frame and so does the factory manual that came with it...but is the 2002/2003 considered the same due to 2002 being a late release?

 

Reason I ask is because I bought a wiseco piston kit PK 1261, it states is for 2001-2002...

 

Iam thinking I bought the wrong one and may need the Wiseco PK 1285,states for 2003 only...

 

 

Another interesting bit of trivia ? 02 > 03 was said to have gone from 36mm to a 38mm Carb and if you look at the "2002" OEM parts, Honda shows that the 02/03 Model use the same Carb...

not sure about the carb diffs or a late 02 being considered an 03. If it is tagged 02 then its an 02.. check your vin# it will tell u for sure wut year it is........... sweet lookin bike though

The 02 is 36mm carb the 03 38mm the 03 has different center cases cylinder different piston. If you have a 02 use the correct piston. In this case wiseco is correct you are not.

Yes...I already bought the wiseco piston kit PK 1261, for 2001-2002...bought it without talking to Wiseco about it though..............

 

Just was not sure if 2002 was a carry over (engine design wise) to 2003..Was not sure of all of the actual changes until I found this, good info.....

What made me start wondering was looking at OEM HONDA parts showing that 02/03 Carbs are the same..yet it has always been said 02 is 36mm and the 03 is 38mm......................
