Tires similar to MX32's

Recommended Posts

Currently on my bike I run a Dunlop mx32 front and a Goldentyre gt232 rear. I love the combo as it works perfect for the softer conditions I ride. My question is does anyone know a good front tire that is as good as the mx32? I love them but after about 20 hours when the tire still has really good tread all the side knobs crack off. So just looking for a really good tire without that issue. Thanks.

Soft terrain tires use a hard rubber compound to make the tall knobs stiff and resist bending,

in return since they are less pliable they 'chunk' off on harder terrain instead of flexing.

The mid-soft Michelin MS3 or Pirelli MS32 are VERY good in soft/sandy/loamy conditions (my 2 favorites)

and can handle occasional 'intermediate' (semi-hard) terrain as well.

Michelin has since replaced the MS3/MH3 lineup by the new Starcross 5's

with more specific terrain designations: Sand, Soft, Intermediate, Hard.

The few online reviews I've found up to now have favorable comments,

some even saying the 'Soft' rear as having too much traction in some cases

making it less predictable (wheelie during hard acceleration)

and more difficult to slide & rear steer than the Medium in the same terrain conditions.

I'll look into them, I down to try whatever and just hope that the knobs don't break.

Between the two brands I mentionned,

personally I'd pick the Michelin MS3 to resist chunking better

as the Pirelli MS32 seem to have the harder rubber compound of the two.
