Idles fine but dies with any throttle

Recommended Posts

2002 drz250. After replacing failed crank bearing, bike starts fine and idles perfectly, but dies if given any throttle. Before main bearing failed the carb was fine, so I'm kind of ruling out a carb issue and looking for other suggestions. Some thoughts:

-The steady idle tells me it was re-assembled properly?

-I triple checked valve timing and it idles fine but would being off a tooth allow it to idle but not rev up?

-during reassembly I did cross leads on starter relay that made a few sparks. Could this have affected CDI? Spark is visually good from plug when grounding to head.

-how about plugged exhaust? (I feel plenty of air from exhaust at idle so tend to think no)

-I tried it with the air filter off and no difference.

-confirmed fuel was flowing and tried it with gas cap off no difference.

Still might be the carb.  How long did it sit before being repaired?  Sounds like a carb clean and you'll be good.
