New bike, 2003 CRF450r, what needs checking / replacing?

Recommended Posts

03 CFR450, collecting it shortly, it runs ok no smoke sounds like the clutch basket is a bit worn .

It has wear marks as you would expect from this year of bike but not too bad.

Ive used the search, but still not sure on what to replace /check, is it worth doing a complete engine strip down? happy to do that than risk losing the motor with a dropped valve etc....

Thanks for your help!

Check valves to get a base and see if they're in spec. Order a APE maual cam chain tensioner as the stock one failed often. Yes, go thru it. I loved my new one back in the day and have one now that should be done soon. Good bikes.

Definitely worth it, if you have the skills/time, to tear into it and inspect the head/piston/rod. Take off the left cover and grab the flywheel and give it a solid tug up and down to feel for any play.  If everything checks out, throw some new gaskets and a new piston in it and enjoy!!!

Good ideal to do the cam chain tensioner too HRC27 said  :ride:
