What are people paying for used bikes today?

Recommended Posts

Located in Denver in looking at picking up a used dirt bike.  I grew riding an interesting selection of bikes.  Had a Honda Trail 70 for years as a little kid, in high school I ripped around on a 1981 Honda XL500 and my last bike was an 06 CBR 600rr.

That being said I am looking for a bike that I can trail ride in the mountains or go to the local MX track.  I have come to the conclusion a used 250T probably would suit me best.

Now what are people paying for used 250Ts?  I am seeing prices all over the board on craigslist.  But the trend I am seeing is 2000 bikes have a low of 1700 to 2000+.  2001-2003 bikes seem to have asking prices of 2100-3000.  Am I a cheapskate feeling $2000 is way too much money for a bike that is 15 years old and most likely will need $500+ in maintenance in the next year or so replacing bearings and other pieces.

What do you guys feel like I should be paying for an early 2000's 250T

My mistake, i thought people here refered to 250 two strokes as 250t's. Im looking for a 250 two stroke. Weighing in at 180lbs and having a height of 5'11 i feel a 250f might lack on power for me as I've always been partial to higher power bikes. After riding my buddies 1000rr i always regretted getting a 600rr.

Everyone calls 2 strokes 2t's or smokers, not a 250t.

To answer your question, a nice one depends on your region. Where I am it's not unusual to spend 3000-4000$ for a nice one where in some places in the U.S., the same bike may sell for 1200$. Typically, you should be able to find a nice 250 2t for between 2000-3000$ ready to ride.

Looks like our prices are hitting right in there with yours.

I would be all over that yz for that price here, but I'm in the minority that still prefers the steel frame.
