RM250 oil to has ratio?

Recommended Posts

I think mine right now is 40:1. It seems to rich and is very smokey. Any ideas on a better ratio

Subject often discussed here.

Unless you very slow trail ride, it's likely not the premix ratio but rather:

-jetted too rich

-bad RH crank seal

-high float/fuel level in carb

-saturated silencer packing

-'racing' type premix oil used in a non-racing application (trail/off-road)

Never change the premix ratio to 'fix' an excessive spooge / smoke issue.

miatour is right, "NEVER" change your premix ratio to correct a spooge / smoke issue ~ that's a jetting issue.  And for what it's worth 40:1 is not a very rich ratio, matter of fact it's a very common ratio ~ I've used it for decades on my RM250's with a lot of very good results.

If in your case you are getting a lot of smoke with this ratio then it's likely that your jetting is needing some adjustments.  I recommend that you buy a JD Jet kit and set it up as the instructions suggest (they are VERY easy to follow).

But just "to be sure", exactly what gas and oil are you mixing?  And how stock is your bikes engine?  FYI:  Excessively high octane in a stock motor will make your bike smoke like a pig.
