Time mark

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I recently checked and shimmed my 2005 CRF250X valve clearance.

I lined up crankcase mark with Camshaft mark and put the chain and camshaft back.

After 5-6 turns, timing mark doesn't line up. And cylinder gets stuck.

Anything that I am doing it wrong? Anyone has any steps to get the timing line up with CRF250X.

Thanks,

Paul

Ouch regarding engine sticking, usually indicates valves hitting the piston during overlap.

I suggest removing the cam and doing a retime. And use the marks in the left cover for TDC, easier to align because they are at a greater radius than those on the right side crank gear.  Your Owner's Manual should have info.

Always: After setting the timing release the cam chain tensioner and recheck the timing.

A worn timing chain can retard timing enough to make starting difficult, I had one that retarded half a tooth and a new chain made starting easier.  If you add that to a one tooth error in timing you could have valve piston interference.
