Apparent frozen decompressor

Recommended Posts

Had an interesting problem today. I went to rip some ice on the 450 EXC and when it would not start out in the cold. (15 degrees) I tried kicking it after the battery started slowing up a bit and realized that I had no compression. It occurred to me that I had not ridden it since I washed it last. I figured that decompressor was stuck open. ( I hoped) . I loaded the bike back up and went back to the shop and warmed it up quick and it fired right up. I let it idle on the trailer on my way back to the pond.

The bike ran perfect and started perfect the rest of the day.

I have not dug into how this decompressor works but is it possible that this was the problem or was it just cold?

BTW. The bike lives in a 65 degree room when it is not being ridden.

Upon more research and reflection it seams that there is no way for the decompressor to be frozen. But the tank being out of gas was the real culprit.

Doh.
