2005 kx250f issue

Recommended Posts

Bought this bike a week back just put a whole new engine in it. The head in the old engine was messed up. So we picked up a new engine. It idles and shuts off. Really stumped. Sometimes when its kicked over it backfires and spits a flame. If you give it gas when idling it kills out. Its spitting oil out of the crank case breather hose. I dont know what it is. Anyone got an idea?

By 'new' I figure you mean 'new to you', but still a used un-rebuilt engine.

Unless it's way overfilled with oil, spitting out oil from the crankcase breather indicates

major combustion blow-by (worn piston / rings?) which would likely warrant replacing.

Did the dude show you written proof (bill of parts and labour) of that or just verbal,

also showing when it was done. (say the engine has 3 years of use since it was refreshed)

A leakdown test would give you an idea of it's actual condition,

search what the accepted % loss is and report back with your engine's results.

Cleaned carb. It has good compression. Put a new spark plug in it. It sparks good. If it fires up its firing for a few seconds and dying out. Throttle still seems to act as a kill switch to the engine it seems. Sprayed carb cleaner in the head just to see if it'd fire up which it dosent im so beyond stumped
