Bike advice

Recommended Posts

Background:

45yrs old.  6'5" ~200lbs.  Grew up riding a two stroke in my early teens.  Didn't ride again until we bought some quads about 10 years ago.  Sold those when we moved.  I bought a CRF250L last year and ride that 90/10 street/dirt.

My 12 year now rides a KX85 and is getting in to mx.  I'd like to buy something to chase him around the track and for trail use.  The trails we ride aren't real technical, just sand/dirt.  I also wouldn't mind trying some mx myself.  Maybe enter a amatuer race when my skills improve.  I don't plan on hitting any monster jumps or anything, I'm getting a little old for that, but I would like a bike that can handle its own on the track.

I've really been leaning towards the Yamaha YZ250FX.  I thought about the Honda 250x but like the fuel injection on the Yamaha.

Anyway, any advice is appreciated.

YZ250FX if you want the practicality and ease of riding of a 4-stroke,

YZ125 if you want the great memories and simplicity of a 2-stroke.

In a few years, your 12 year old could inherit the YZ125 as he outgrows the KX85.
