Michigan How are the trails near Houghton Lake?

Thinking about getting into the sport with my kids. They range from 9-14. I grew up in HL and my parents still live there so it would be a cheap way to go somewhere for a weekend or longer. How are the trails for beginners/kids?

Lots of trails/options in that area. All of the trails are sand, which is difficult for beginners. Riding spring/fall or after rain packs the sand down and makes it easier for them.

sand on the denton loop is not bad at all

I just moved from NC to MI over Thanksgiving and rode denton loop last weekend. Had a blast till I got a flat. For never really riding in the sand I thought it was great!

I'm thinking about getting something like a CRF250L. How do you think it would do on the trails around HL? Probably would ride those the most. Also up by Muskegon. Anyone ride those? I'd guess those are sandy also?
