Quick WR450 engine question

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Just picked up a new-to-me 2007 WR450F today. When I bought it I saw a small amount of oil on top of the engine case under the carb and under the front sprocket.  I was (and still somewhat am) fairly certain it's an output shaft seal. But then I saw what looks like a small piece of metal missing from the case on the back side of the clutch input shaft.  Is this normal?

If you can't identify where the oil is coming from, check for oil in the bottom of the airbox.  If you overfill the oil level, or run it really hard, the breather hose will vent excess oil into the airbox, and it will run into a clear plastic drain tube.  If the drain tube is full, it will collect in the bottom of the airbox and then drip in that vicinity.

You can remove the drain tube to drain any oil from the bottom of the airbox.

The amount of RTV Silicon smeared on various areas there, would lead me to believe something requiring a new gasket has been worked on recently, and was resealed without the proper gasket.

But, that's just me.
