400ex carb overflow

Recommended Posts

Is there an o-ring in a 2004 400 EX above the float jet? We bought it not running but we got it running, we  started off and driving but everything just needed to be tuned. We clean the carburetor and now gas is pouring through the Overflow tube whenever the quad is running and the gas is on. So we think that there might be o-ring needed the pilot yet

I'm guessing, is your float. I have had several customers this last year with this same type of issue. Pull your carb out, and pull the float off. Look at where the needle touches the float (where the top of the needle contacts the float). Sometimes it's plastic, sometimes it's metal. Either way, if there is a little "dot", that's your issue. When they run and even sit, the needle pushes against that part, and if the float gets that little indentation on it, the needle/float gets stuck on its way up, and can't push the needle tip against the seat. So it keeps flowing fuel into the carb. If fuel gets too high in the carb, it comes out wherever it can, typically the overflow tube.
