Which Air Filter Oil / Cleaner?

So I traded a pretty nice AR15 for a bike.  The bike I originally got was an 08 kx450f.  It was a nice bike.  Much like the 07 kx450f I used to own.  But I had the bike maybe 1 month and decided I'd rather have a 2 stroke.  So I sold the bike, and picked up an 04 CR250.  I'm pretty happy with it.  Very clean, mostly stock bike.  

Right now I am going through it to make sure it jetted and running right.  Its been maybe 8 years since I was on one of them.  I grew up with them and I was a teenager the last time I cleaned an air filter on a 2 stroke.   I have a k&n cleaner/oil combo kit I got from autozone.  I used to use this when cleaning the yz450f quad I had years back, but that quad had a k&n filter, and perhaps this won't work on my bike?  The filter on my bike is a Twin Air filter though I'm not sure if this is stock or not.

I used just some dawn dish soap and maxima filter oil. I'll use a harsher cleaner probably ever 6 rides to get the staining out of the filter but basically as long as the cleaner is for an air filter it should be fine. Same with the oil

How you clean it probably has more to do with it.   I don't recall any of the K and N filter cleaning products being aimed at foam filters though.

I'll clean with soap then.  Thats what I used to do back in the day.  Think there is any reason not to use the spray-type k&n oil on it?  Should I get something else?  Any air filter oil recommendations?

i would never use spray on air filter oil, get yourself some belray oil and do it by hand

I use the maxima spray on and it works great. Still have to knead it in

I use mineral spirits to clean the filter, then hot soapy water to clean the mineral spirits out. Then flip the filter inside out and spray it pushing any leftover dirt back. maxima needed in well or any other foam oil

not as tacky, still motor oil on one finger and air filter oil on the other, run them under water and see which one holds up better

NoToil Filter.  Comes pre oiled.  Clean with Oxy Clean.  Same stuff as the no Toil cleaner.  Use the RED No Toil oil to oil your freshly cleaned filter.  The GREEN stuff does not disperse as well.

Yeah I second the no toil.

I buy a large bottle of no toil cleaner & large bottle of the red no toil oil.
Clean my filter every ride as per the instructions and oil before every ride

A bottle of each lasts a year, I ride nearly every weekend. Top notch stuff

Oxy Clean, and the No Toil brand cleaning powder are the same.  Cheaper to the buy the Oxy Clean at Wal Mart.

I ended up cleaning it with oxyclean and using some other off the shelf brand of air filter oil. Thank you all for the replies.

I'm old school.  Twin air Liquid power.

I used no toil but it didn't seem to get all of the oil off so I used no toil and dish soap and it works wonders
