Adjusting power valve question?

Recommended Posts

Got a new 2017 ktm 250sx. When adjusting the power valve do you have to loosen the two 6mm bolts on the square adjuster and when you back it all the way out to adjust it does it stop when it's all the way out soo you can then turn it in to your desired setting?

What about the two 6mm bolts MXA says you don't have to loosen?

The two 6mm bolts are only removed if you want to change the PV spring - not sure on the SX but the offroad models come with 3 total (Red, Yellow, Green).  The square adjuster is safe to back all the way out turning it too far in will cause problems with it disengaging eventually.  Usable range on the square center adjuster is about 4 turns total from full out, personally I would not go farther in than that plus most bikes run best at 2 to 2.5 in from full out.

Just to be clear, you only loosen the screws if you're going to remove the cap to change the spring.  If you want to adjust the spring preload by turning the square hole in the end of the cap you don't have to loosen the 6mm bolts.
