Gearing/exhaust question

Recommended Posts

I am currently re-building an 02 CR 250.  It has a Gnarly pipe with the stock 13/48 gearing. I'm an old broke 42 year old vet B rider and I am planning on riding this bike in the woods with the occasional hare scramble. I was pondering the idea of either putting an OEM expansion chamber or FMF Fatty with a 50 or even 51 tooth rear sprocket.  My idea behind this is to be able to use more of the motor's mid and top end, while keeping the gearing in the back kinda tall so I can still be able to manage the slow tight stuff.  Thoughts?

Thank you!
