2004 CR 85R Ignition Component testing

Recommended Posts

Long time dirtbike rider first time poster. My son was given a CR85R with no spark. I believe I have properly tested the coil, not sure of any way to test the CDI but would like some information that anyone has or a service manual on how to properly test all the ignition components to rule out the defective one. Thank you in advance

Coil should read about 14 ohms resistance, you got good advice already about start with the cheap stuff first, try a new spark plug , trim the ignition wire 1/4" both ends try a new plug cap clean grounding locations, clean up ignition trigger

the test for the cdi is to replace it with a known good unit.

Do you have any spark at all and if so what colour is it? Of course you know kill switches are known to fail so simply disconnect it and see if your situation changes

useful replys from you will help to get your bike sorted out so for instance if you cleaned up the grounding locatons say so?

if you tested the kill button as described say so...

if you installed a known good working spark plug say so ?
