Yzf front on 230

Recommended Posts

I recently bought a 2009 ttr 230 with 03yzf 250 front forks. I have a chance to pickup 05 yz 250 forks for cheap with new seals. Is that something I should grab and will tyethe tubes fit the 03 yzf clamps.

The 2005 model year forks (YZ and YZF), known as AOSS type were a '1 year only model',

meaning a transition between previous open chamber style (like the 2003)

and the newer highly regarded 2006+ 'SSS' closed chamber forks common on Yamaha MX'ers.

(WR250F's used open chambers up to 2015)

Unless you plan on serious motocross style jumping, the earlier open chamber design like you already have

are often much better suited for general trail / off-roading, allowing a plusher ride/better traction on trail trash.

I would pass on those '05 forks, they're not considered an 'improvement' for earlier motocross bikes either.

By memory, some KTMs enduro models that were 'upgraded' to closed chamber forks

have since returned to using open chamber style forks for newer models.
