2008 drz 400 sm wont fire up, has spark, fuel , compression

Recommended Posts

my drz sat for a while due to a bat rectifier and stator, replaced them, started right up, rode to gas it up and started back firing badly at half throttle while losing power, suspected carb to be defective, opened carb , signs of water damage , cleaned and tried to start, no go. replaced with a new oem carb, still wont start. im stumped, has spark , compression, fuel. any help will be nice, I just wanna ride!

Or that it has spark at the correct time . I'd do a compression check , leakdown test , then dry the cylinder out, squirt a little oil down the plug hole and spin it over a few times to get it covered , then a squirt of known good gas down the plug hole and a new sparkplug , have the carb bowl drained empty. It should then fire , if not it's a spark(timing or pickup coil, stator ect..) or compression issue.

If it does fire for a bit , I'd pour some fresh gas down the hose to fill up the carb bowl< not from the gas tank> and squirt some more fuel down the plug hole and try it.
