2004 400ex rear brakes

Recommended Posts

My 2004 400ex has no rear brakes. I have replaced the rear caliper, and rebuilt master cylinder. I have tried bleeding then normally, and I have tried reverse bleeding. I am still getting no pressure at all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bleeding rear brake lines can be tricky. Air gets trapped in some weird spots and using the bleeder screw won't work to remove it. What I would try is to first remove the line from the caliper, then pinch your fingers over the end of the line and push on the brake lever. You should feel pressure build if the master cylinder is working. This spot is where air can get trapped, so if you're lucky the air bubble will be replaced with fluid and you can connect the line and continue the process at the bleeder screw. Some people remove the whole system and hang it vertically to help the air rise to the top but try my suggestion first - it usually works for me.  Good luck and try not to lose patience!
