carb jetting desert racing vs dune riding

Recommended Posts

I got myself a used 06 KX450f, the previous guy was doing desert racing in eastern WA on it and had installed the appropriate jet in the carb, not sure what kind.. I am planning to do dune riding in Florence OR, so I wonder if my jetting would be ok. Ideally I don’t want to open the carb to examine the jet, I was thinking that if desert racing needs , for example to go a little larger with the jetting, and going larger for sea level dune riding  is also recommended, then I am likely good to go, I guess??. However, If we know you go Up for desert racing and go down for dune riding, then I know I must open it and change it. Any ideas, thoughts??. Thx a lot!

If you're getting into this hobby and your bike has a carb, it would be in your best interest to learn jetting, especially if you are riding dunes where the load is so high and you're on the main a big percentage of the time.
