No spark on drz400s motor with drz400e wiring harness

Recommended Posts

I had a drz400e with a great motor but I wanted it to be street legal (in Florida there's no way to make it street legal unless it comes that way from the factory). I bought a drz400s really cheap because it had s lot of miles and I swapped the motors. I got my E motor running just fine with the S wiring harness (thanks to previous posts in this forum), but I'm not getting any spark on the S motor with the E harness (it has the S cdi). Any ideas? I know my neutral switch isn't connected to anything, is that the problem?

With Noble's help, I finally got spark! I had to ground the black wire with the yellow stripe coming from the large plug on the cdi. You just have to make sure you ground it from the cdi side, not the kill switch side (that's what I was doing wrong). In the S harness I believe that wire is the green wire from the kickstand. So, I've got spark! Yay!! Unfortunately I still can't get the dang thing to start. I started a different topic about it.
