Oil leak near shift lever

Recommended Posts

Hey all, ran in to a problem on my bike.

It is leaking a small amount of oil on the underside of the engine near the shift lever. I'm unsure if it's a seal in the lever or possibly the gasket on the underside of the engine.

Thoughts?

Ya on my 05 CRF250R I found Thumper Talk about 4 years ago when I had a similar issue.

Found out is just an outer seal (at least on my bike) and it had worked out a bit when I pressure washed into the area.

I was able to push mine back in with a chop stick and I now don't blast the area :)

I would pull the lever use a small pick to pull it out and clean the seal and area. Then carefully push in the seal (note which way it goes when you remove)

If there is NOT the outer seal, you have a bigger issue

Might be the output shaft oil behind the front sprocket as this can leak from from dirt getting trapped between the seal lip and spacer when riding in muddy conditions
