Battery Size Problems in 2010 450 EXC Champ Ed

Recommended Posts

A few years ago I bought a used 2010 450 EXC Champ Ed. Last week, I ordered a new battery. Manual said get a YTX5L-BS. Got it, but the damn thing is too tall. The seat hits it and won't mount. The prior owner had a YTX4L installed, which is much shorter. I figured he'd done it for weight. I can't imagine why this would no longer fit. Were there some bikes that came from the factory with a different battery requirement? Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks!

Warren

From what I've been able to dig up, the older models came with this smaller box. Newer models came standard with a larger box. Maybe he installed the smaller box to save on weight with a smaller battery... I dunno. Hopefully ordering the standard box will make everything right.

^^^^ what Busa said.
I replaced my 2010
450XCWSD with a Shorai lithium battery. I lost 4lbs! and it has a stronger crank for sure and more reliable starts, which overall gave me more confidence in my bike.
Something we all want.
