1982 xr 100 oil spec.

Can anyone tell me the recommended oil spec in my 82' Xr 100?

The oldest XR owner's manual that I have is for a 87 XR250R and it specs a 20W-50 oil. Oil has changed a lot over the years and today cars use special oil because of emissions and fuel mileage.  Those requirements are often not good for a motorcycle.

The XR engines share engine lube oil with the tranny and clutch, the latter is the problem when using some car oils. If you make sure any oil you use is JASO-MA certified it will be compatible with the XRs wet clutch.

Just make a quick call to tech support for what ever brand of oil you prefer to use, as they can give best advise.  Many oils used in automotive applications will work well in the older XR's with wet clutches.  The problems Chuck speaks of are mainly with wonder oils or modern machines and clutch materials.  Call and the oil company and get it straight from them on their oils and correct applications....................?
