Performance Carb Vomit .....

Recommended Posts

So titled because the info seems endless on carbs other than the lowly stock PD carb on the 230....

Stock

XR250

Keihin FCR

Keihin PWK

Mikuni flat slide....

Performance gains ....

Cash outlay....

Jetting nightmares...

Billet adapters...

Home made adapters...

I don't know if it will work, but maybe Performance testimonials and info all in one place....

Currently my own 230 has :

Airbox uncorked...

Stock carb with venturi modded to allow max opening at WOT...

Terry Miller Super torquer 1.5 cam

HVP porting/ 4 angle valve job

Procom CDI box

Stock bore wiseco high comp piston with single layer .009" head gasket

Pro Circuit exhaust with stepped headpipe...

And it runs REALLY good compared to stock....

Instant hit off idle and meaty midrange with much improved top end compared to stock...

Possible upgrades to come are the +10cc BBR higher compression piston kit....

And maybe something in the carb department....

So far the xr250 carb sounds a stealthy and fairly straightforward bolt on...

And then I hear pwk carbs are like adding a blower...

So much to ponder.... So much money to squirrel away ... What to do....

OK... Sold on that one...

Where I'm at is I can't quite deal with a carb upgrade that costs as much as the piston + camshaft+ exhaust system...

Just doesn't seem right..

While I would normally agree with this, feedback on the PWK carb has been nothing but 100% positive and all have reported significant gains.

I have looked at the 230 carb kit prices...

Step away from the bong is all I can say...

Carb price= super inexpensive

Adapter kit = don't shoot, my wallet is in my pocket!!

I guess Terry was being kind to me because it was very reasonable.

The price I have seen is on Engines Only carb kit....

Oh!  No...  That is not what you will pay Terry for one of his carb kits!

It's no wonder you were on that track!

I would be surprised if that was a genuine article given the price and it being on Ebay.  Caveat Emptor.

It's not a genuine article...

It is a Taiwan OKO copy....

Chuck has stated that it is a very good and much used PWK copy...

That probably is a genuine OKO. They are Taiwanese copies of PWKS.  TheI have a 26mm version on one of my Montesa trials bikes and it works very well. It uses the same jets and parts as a Keith in carb. BUT there are Chinese copies of the Taiwanese copies of PWKsome and they are generally horrible. I keep thinking about making up the adapters to try my 26 on the 230, the engine is stock so I think it would be OK,  time is the problem.

Next up would be jetting....

How far off would the OKO carbs, or any pwk be?

Anyone willing to share jetting perfection numbers ??

You know if these OKO pwks are decent... And all you would need is some sweet billet adapters....

I'm sure my friend Christopher (Sredrum) could be talked into a group buy of crf230 specific custom taperbore and billet setups...

Like 30.5mm specials that would be awesome....

Any and all possible machining to re-mount screws and drill vents , as well as all billet adapters... Could be done to perfection by Chris....

If  I could get a perfect bolt on taperbored setup for around 250... I'm in...

2nd from top... $499.00

All you got to do is call Terry and ask...

The completely jetted in advance, PWK,adaptors (entire kit) from him with throttle and cable is probably right around 1/2 that price + shipping

Educated guesstimate...,

If it's a literal bolt-on for about half that price, I may have to throw my money at Terry again as well... Even though I could cnc my own adapters, finding the time right now is difficult.

Still working on getting my bike running perfectly and working on the stock PD carb/throttle is definitely not my favorite, to put it lightly...

Been a while since I've surfed this board and I am pleased to hear about this upgrade. How much power is this good for? worth it if I havent done any engine work yet (piston/cams/etc)?

Going for higher flow with other components that don't support the flow is usually not the best idea...

Stock cam and exhaust would be a serious limiter on the carbs potential... I would suggest those ...either first..or along with the carb change
