Wr400 gold valves

Need some advice regarding fork gold valves. I going to freshen up my 2000 WR400 with a fork revalve, I can get type1 GV's on ebay cheapish , im keen to fit these myself but when i check racetechs web site they recommend that the cartridge be dissambled ( by drilling crimps) when using the latest GVs and an o-ring be fitted.

Is this mod necessary on the old type 1 GV's and  are they worth using.

Doubt you would notice a difference between those and the same revalve with the stock pistons.
