Troubleshooting tips for brake controller?

Recommended Posts

Hitched up for a ride and campout this last weekend.  I'm pulling a Jayco Baja with the ATV/bike deck on the front and uses the Bergman 7-pin round plug. My 87 Chevy had an older brake controller installed before I got it and was told it was functional.  When I depress the pedal, the arm on the controller moves but the red LED on the face doesn't light up anymore (stopped about 5-6mo ago). Moving the arm while under way has no affect, either.  Never needed one of these until now, so I'd like to see if I can get it working again before buying a new smart controller, like a Prodigy.  Any troubleshooting tips?

Just replace it.  If you've troubleshot it to the controller (which it sounds like you have), it's not likely you'll be able to repair it anyways.  They're not worth the hassle, especially for an older one.  A newer proportional controller is lightyears ahead of the old junk.

Primus IQ in my pickup.  About $80.
