99 XR600R head cover-metal gasket or permatex gasket maker?

Recommended Posts

The 99 XR600R uses a metal gasket to mate the head cover to the head. Mine leaks. I have removed the head cover, inspected and I am prepared to remount it. I am considering replacing the metal head gasket with permatex gasket maker?

Problem?

Or buy a brand new OEM one for $20 and have it problemless for ten years...

 Because they are NOT $20.00...

Those valve cover gaskets are freekin nutty expensive.pisses me off just thinking about..

I lightly skim both sides of the steel OE steel gasket with a good RTV silicone,,NEVER had one leak..

I'm still using the one that came new on my '05. The coating has never peeled , I've never coated it with anything. No leaks , ever. It's been apart several times.
