What's this rear caliper bracket pin do?

Recommended Posts

I asked over in another General section but didn't get replies so I'll post here. How does this pin interact with the swing arm on the 650?

Looking at diagrams there's no hint as to its' function other than maybe stabilizing the caliper bracket as the pin rests against the inner U shaped steel piece that is held onto the inner swing arm U section with screws

I'm going to use it to convert my drum brake XR to disc and I'm curious what the pin does

That pin helps you keep things lined up when you're trying to put the rear wheel back on.  I just went through that exercise recently when I put on a new back tire after wearing the old one through three of the four layers of cords.
