1997 KTM 250 EGS SEM Ignition Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

My SEM coil has failed, and they are very hard to find, and very expensive! does anyone have any suggestions of alternatives? Could i fit a non charging stator as this would be a cheap fix. Any suggestions welcome.

this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1996-1-96-KTM-360MXC-360-MXC-Engine-Ignition-Stator-Magneto-Generator-/262944638681?hash=item3d38b8c6d9:g:KG8AAOSwTM5Y0DRL&vxp=mtr

Thats just the stator, my cdi/ignition coil has failed. SEM seems to be unreliable don't know if worth buying an old second hand one.

I found this - http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/acatalog/CD5005_-_Digital_CDI_Unit.html

Has anyone used the CD5005 cdi replacement before?

The old ones are so cheap I used to keep a few in Just in case although this new ones from electrex would be a much better option.

I've never used their ktm bits but have done for the yamaha and they are excellent quality

That's terrible. Nothing is cheap from breakers. Sometimes even more than brand new parts. Its a long time since I had to buy one for those old bikes tbh but I don't think I ever paid more than £10 each lol maybe me buying all of them forced up the value :)

Going the electrex route is definitely the way forward though
