Stalling when shifting into first gear

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm having some troubles with my 2009 Crf250r. When I shift into first with the clutch all the way in the bike stalls. My oil only has about 6 hrs on it and I've heard it could also be the clutch plates or just be as simple as adjusting the clucth? Any advice as to which one it could be?

Remove the clutch basket and hub and look to see if there are any notches that have been formed in your clutch basket from the discs. This might be causing the discs to get locked into the basket no matter if you have the clutch pulled in or not

And over half of bikes I have owned, purchase used, when there was a clutch issue I always found notches in the basket

Sounds like you have some stiction. Common problem with these bikes. It happens when the clutch plates stick together and stop separating completely. A lot of the time it develops from running too many hours on your oil. How many hours do you run on your tranny oil? You do not have to replace anything and your plates are fine. What I would do is run 2 cycles of fresh oil through for about 2 hours each. If you find your still having some stiction, buy some stiction eliminator and it should definitely do the job
