KX65 Stalling in wet conditions

Recommended Posts

2004 KX65. My sons bike bogs then stalls in wet conditions. I've noticed there is a slot on the bottom of the air box and water is getting in and on the bottom of the UNI filter. The slot has a small flap inside the air box that is flexible and sits about 1/4" above bottom. Should the be anything else there to prevent water from entering the air box?

I placed a piece of duct tape over the hole and let him ride thru a few mud holes problem. Took the tape off and it stalled at third mud hole. Too short of a test for conclusion at this point. Need another wet day to try it out. The problem ruined his race today at muddy Harescramble.

Meant to say, no problem with tape on.

I cannot remember our KX65 airbox. But like any it should have that little platform so there is no direct path from the lower hole onto the filter. My boy rode ours many times in very wet conditions and no issues. You could improvise if yours isn't stock.
