Ktm 200 power valve leaking oil

Recommended Posts

I have a ktm 200 xcw 2008 that I was adjusting the power valve on. I have now adjusted it out quite a bit from where it was stock. There is a leak behind the screw in the centre of the power valve adjuster that I noticed after a few rides. Would this be a leaky seal of some sort? Something to do with adjusting it? Thanks

No it will be ok. There is an o ring seal in behind the adjuster nut which may well be worn/finished. That bolt you refer to holds the centrifugal timer to the large 2 sided adjuster nut (and hence to the clutch cover). It is all lubricated by the gearbox oil. You could check the 8mm centre bolt isn't loose though - you need the bike in gear and brake on to tighten it to the correct torque. From my knowledge of the system can't see how it can do any harm running it with a damaged o ring as the outside end of the timer runs in a ball race also inside the big adjuster nut. The alternative is removing the clutch cover and timer to replace it. Hope this helps.
