Sprocket change

Recommended Posts

I have a ride on Saturday and noticed today my sprocket is about shot. The teeth have been breaking all week and now It's just a bunch of small nubs. It's the origional 04 sprocket 52 tooth. My buddy has one he said I could borrow to get me through the weekend but it is a 49 tooth. What will this change in the bike and will it be ok to run the 49? I know it changes the gearing but what can I expect? Thanks.

No the TTR sprocket doesn't have the same  mounting / bolt pattern as your CRF.

Even if it would physically fit, going from 52 to 49 you would have to shorten the chain a few links.

Your current 52 likely isn't the original, pretty sure all model years of the CRF250X came stock with 14/53.

If the sprocket is worn that bad, figure the chain is toast as well.

Going to a 49 would not require shortening the chain. My 250x is plated so I run it in the street a lot and also ride right single track, so I often switch between a 55, 53 and 47 all on the same chain. There is more than enough adjustment.
