Drz400sm sprocket and chain length

Recommended Posts

how do you determine the chain length when changing sprockets?

Im changing my counter shaft sprocket from 15t(stock) to 14t. will i need to change the number of links in the chain? and if so how do you figure it out so i dont have to ask every time i change sprockets.

-Thanks in advance!

it actually will vary by chain condition and where your adjusters are at ... generally if your at half or less on your adjuster, you can get away with 1 tooth .. if your chain is stretched and you dont have much adjustment left it probably wont work without shortening it .... that said, chain tools and an extra chain bought long are nice to have with a bike your playing with gearing on.
