Hello all, been here a long time ago when I had my 2003 xr650r. I had to sell that one a few years back and I have aquired a 2002 xr650r.

My 2003 had a powerbomb header and fmf pipe. I am going to purchase a header and pipe for this 2002 but want to know your opinions about if I should go with FMF for the header and pipe? Any other suggestions? Best combo for uncorking?

I plan to uncork it ASAP. So I will need a jet kit or maybe I can get away with spending less on a kit if someone knows the exact size jets I would need for full uncork and 6000' elevation?

Also need a rear rack. I had a Baja designs rack before and I really liked it. Any others worth mentioning to me?

Need buddy pegs. I ordered some before but dont remember brand or where I got them. They did the job and tucked up pretty nice. Anything there?

I've seen some 650r's with the side panel that covers the air cleaner having holes in them. Are these homemade or does someplace sell them?

My 2003 was never uncorked so what should I be expecting when doing that?

I appreciate any and ALL info you guys can provide. Links welcome. I am in the USA Southwest NM.

Thanks all. and GO BRP!!!

I'm a fairly new XR650R owner and from what I've read, skip the exhaust and put that money in to a TM40 pumper carb - I'm at sea level so I don't know what jetting you'll need.  Mine came with a TM-40 and it's a huge difference in throttle response compared to my stock XR600.  I have never really understood why someone would pay a few hundred bucks for an almost identical header pipe - it's just a bent tube IMO but does look better.  I've also read some reviews where people have put on exhausts and not noticed any real difference.  Might sound better and look better, but I'd rather have better throttle response, easier starting, etc. with a pumper carb.

I like the ManRacks panty rack, but haven't got one yet.

Not sure where to get buddy pegs - if you find some let me know :)

I think Uni Filter used to sell a kit for the side panel, but I'm sure you can make your own.  Some say it's just a way for more dirt to get in to the air box.

I'm sure some are DIY jobs for the side panels, but you can also buy them that way.  A bit spendy, but XRs only has them:

Baja Designs has buddy pegs for the xr650r. As for the exhaust, get the HRC insert for the stock can. That was my first step. Then I had to try the XRs Only slip on. the only difference was louder and set me back 320 bucks. Here is the part number for the Honda hrc tip. 18317-MBN-640

Try this link, has good info and Honda part numbers. http://www.qsl.net/n5nj/pig/uncorking the brp.htm

Hey thank you for the comment.. I got some buddy pegs for my '03 some time back before 2010, so that was the first place I checked. But all I can find on their site now is "led lighting".. Man, they went downhill.. If I am looking in the wrong place please link me up with those pegs? Thanks again.

And I will spend my money on other things instead of the pipe.. I already have a "modified" exhaust tip I think. I've read the stock tip's hole is like 3/4" and whatever is on mine now is over 1". I havent taken it out.

Thank you.. Holy crap. $140.00 for panels? They sure are proud of them.. I took my cordless drill and a bit and made my own holes. All I need is some steel mesh to rivet in there now.

Edit: or maybe no steel mesh, I dont have anyone to ride with so I am not in a constant dust cloud. And if I had someone to ride with, they would definitely be BEHIND me.. lol

Thanks again. I do like those black panels.. I had bought black panels for my '03 and thought it looked real good.
