clutch slipping after rebuild

I just have the friction plates changed on my clutch, the metal plates were ok and I did not check the springs,  Now it is slipping any suggestions?

What bike?

OEM or aftermarket friction discs? They are not all created equal.

Did you soak the discs in oil over night before install?

Did you offset the last disc?

What oil are you running?

Did you readjust the clutch lever free play after install?

I had a local shop here in Cambodia install friction plates, the fiber ones, which were honda parts.  He didn't replace the springs nor the metal plates.

Never mind. There is no offset for 250R clutches.

There is no oil called Motrol.  There is a Motul.

Could you be more specific - grade, type of oil, etc.  Motorcycle clutches are incompatible with some oil types - they slip.

Yes it is Motul and it is a 2003 XR-250R

Not soaking the fibers and then type of oil is where Id look. Is it synthetic?  Thats if I was certain all the steels sat flat before install.

Then cable adjustment.

Ok so here was the problem.  The shop installed the parts that were OEM Honda, made in Thailand, good parts.  They installed them because I asked for good parts.  It I had asked for best parts they would have installed OEM Honda but made in Japan.

Check out the rear brake disc and the problem that I had with the clutch basket.  The disc has been replaced with new pads and the basket was part of the problem with the clutch originally. Min spec on that disc is 4mm and it was <1mm in the groove.

Thinking of purchasing a new clutch pack and springs next time I am in the States, what brands do you guys suggest?

Barnett. Been using them since the early 70s.  That's all we would use on the drag bikes.

My 1997 XR250R clutch lasted twenty years so I just went with original OEM Honda.

I thort the same thing  it has the tin tank on it only xr of that style iv seen is the 250y unless its 80s the tanks are plastic???

Barnett is great. But if you dont race. Like said above the oem is absolutely the best choice and will last you twenty years (with proper oil care)
