Turning key to "off" doesn't kill the bike

Recommended Posts

I have a DRZ400 (the off-road kicker model) that the previous owner installed a key switch onto. I used to be able to use the key switch to kill the engine by turning it to "off", but now it seems to run fine even in the "off" position. The killswitch still works normally.

Does anybody have any experience wiring up key switches to DRZs? Is there a general diagram that I should be looking at to guide me to a bad connection, or perhaps this symptom is specific enough to know exactly where to look?

Thanks!

you could look at a drz wiring diagram .. the power to the key switch has to be the right wire directly from the battery, if the wrong wire was used that wire could be poweringthings even with the key off, or something else was wired with it that is now keeping the main line 'on' .. ...

No, battery on a kicker.

The key switch should function just like the kill switch. Being it no longer does, I'd wager the switch has failed and it is time for a replacement
