Smoke from airbox after installed Ricky stator

Recommended Posts

Hello,

wondering if I crossed any wires installing a Ricky stator in my 1983 xl600r. The stator tested bad so I replaced it and adjusted the valves and it started 2nd kick. I rode to work and there was smoke pouring from the air box! From reading on here it sounds more likely that it's piston rings or a valve not seating properly but I wanted to see what everyone thought. This was my daily driver so I'm anxious to get her going again.

Thanks,

t

Yep im pretty certain it's coming from the air box though I can ride and try to photograph again tmw. I pulled the seat off and poked around a bit last time.

No burnt wires? Could be blow-by from the engine breather, there's usually a vent hose towards the air box or inside it.

the instrument cluster is still smoking after I ride - i believe youre correct on the blow-by smoke at the airbox but the smoke that appears to be from somewhere behind the headlight is worrying me, it definitely smells like burnt plastic.
